Once upon a time this was a boring, cheap plywood chest of drawers. It’s only a little thing – not a full size chest.
It’s had bun feet added, and when it came to me it was in a sorry state – I had to do a repair to one foot which has broken in two, and knock one of the side joints back into place. It had several coats of black lacquer to begin with – and then the fun started! There’s a couple of “before” snaps in the gallery.
I’ve added a design that runs over the front, top and one side. It’s a triskele – a design sometimes used as a symbol by kinky types to signify that they’re into BDSM. To be honest though, I just liked it. Then over the front, I have painted some scrollwork in co-ordinating colours, and added some genuine silver leaf. The drawer pulls are new too, and in a muted pink they complement the luxurious look. The whole lot has been given a couple of coats of satin lacquer for protection.
Size: 14″ wide x 13″ high x 11″ deep (36cm x 33cm x 28cm)
I have lined two of the drawers with hi-density foam covered in black PVC/faux leather. The bottom drawer is lined and cushioned too, and also sectioned to ensure all your favourite toys are neatly and safely stashed away.
I’ve used dramatic colours on this – black and red, complemented by muted pinks (even the silver leaf is marbled blush!) because I’d like to imagine this would be a lovely and practical addition to a playroom or dungeon. I see a lot of black and red dungeon furniture, so hopefully this will be the perfect storage solution somewhere!
This piece has been crafted from something that was (at least!) second hand, and much of the materials involved (the padding and PVC lining, the knobs) are also reused or offcuts. Saved from landfill, it’s no longer needless waste.
